Two of the UK’s finest guitarists pay tribute to one of the unsung heroes of jazz: American guitarist Emily Remler died in 1990 at the age of 32 whilst on tour in Australia, having begun to establish a formidable international reputation. Manchester-based guitarist Kathy Dyson and London-based guitarist Deidre Cartwright play swing, Latin and bebop invoking the spirit Emily. Both Kathy and Deidre have extensive backgrounds as advocates, educators and performers and have brought their wealth of experience and love of Emily’s music together in the hope of inspiring a new generation of women to the beauty of jazz guitar as well as new listeners to the music that either Emily Remler composed and often played from her favourite influences.
"If there is a more complete guitarist in contemporary music than Deirdre Cartwright - I'd like to know who it is." Dave Gelly,The Observer |
